free thinkers. Whole Foods shoppers. mountain men with secrets. Obamanites and A-bomb builders. gray ancient turtles and kids galore. we even got a sonic and a subway. now i haven't been everywhere, but i have been around enough to know when I've exited the regular passage of time, and by golly this is it. Los Alamos is the poster town for the don't ask don't tell lifestyle, and Mom and Pop stores. Population for the town is somewhere in the 20 thousands but dont quote me on that.
Los Alamos is very peaceful, the wind is always blowing lightly, it usually does not get above 89 degrees, and it’s a dry heat, with very little humidity.
Now for the downside.
Los Alamos is a bon-a-fide “backdoor community”. That means people in this town don’t sit on their front porch talking to each other , no one says hi at the grocery store, no one asks how your job is going and no one wants to go out to eat after church on Sunday. These are all chemists, physicists, scientists, MIT computer engineers, and major government employees who make a minimum of 50-200,000 a year to do their job and keep their mouth shut. This, surprisingly, has transferred well into their private lives.
The other side of the town is the senior citizens. Now these are the people that started this town for the sole purpose of facilitating The National Lab. Now, this was a group of people that moved in all the supplies and equipment to start a town that was guarded by a Major military presence. They couldn’t even contact their families and friends to tell them there was a town and where they were until AFTER the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. and as the town began to form and grow, they saw the need for local government and with no outsiders to offer suggestion, they basically formed their own ‘club’. now fast forward to the present and you see the same people who started this place are retired in it. At this point they have become completely entrenched and invested in this town. They decide what kind of town they want, what they want in it, and who is in power to do what.
its a fun place to live if you're a Lab worker, someone in whom nothing is expected like a housewife, or a spoiled, demanding, entitled, kid. so come visit us, wouldnt you? we can chat, sight see, and way, way overpay for lunch at
Daniel's Cafe.
don't worry about bringing a fallout suit. that's just a rumor.
