The Great thing About Los Alamos...

the great thing about Los Alamos is that you cant get a pizza past 8 pm.
the great thing about Los Alamos is that every business in town is a locally owned business.
the great thing about Los Alamos is that this town is wall to wall old farts that all own a car, and all shouldn't be driving.
the great thing about Los Alamos is that if you dont have a degree in engeneering or science, or computer science, you really dont beling here.
the great thing about Los Alamos is that we live in a town of 20 thousand people, but we have only one grocery store, and that store on a regular basis, SELLS SPOILED MEAT, and MOLDY BREAD!!
the great thing about Los Alamos is that we have a small town full of teenage kids racing down every street with NO police in site.
the great thing about Los Alamos, is that most of all the houses built out here were built in the 40's. they have no air conditioners, and none of the houses are built with regular up sliding windows to allow for a window unitl to be installed.
the great thing about Los Alamos is that loser shit people like Cheryl Pongratz still get a sandwich named after them.
the great thing about Los Alamos is that most of the shops in this town are specialty shops and are therefore much more expensive than the avarage tems should be.
the great thing about Los Alamos is that the median house sells for 200,000 bucks.
the great thing about Los Alamos is that this town will not be around for ever, and when it dies, i will not weep for it.

"A Green Earth!" says the weapons tester, but you and I know better...

So you wanna go green? oh wait, you say you are green? oh, i see you recycle, you are against light pollution, you have stock in Whole Foods. you believe in the electric car, you voted democrat, and you are activly persuing solar energy as an alternative energy source. but wait, dont you work at the lab? what do you do there? the simplest explanation, you say, is that you build bombs for a living. Nuclear weapons, you say? isnt that bad for the environment? i thought so...ooooh thats why you do all that shit you do. you must be racked with guilt. No? oh. how many hours a week do you work? do you ever get to see your family? what about your kids? i bet they get a good allowence though, right?

so really, how well do you sleep at night?

We're a lot like Levittown

free thinkers. Whole Foods shoppers. mountain men with secrets. Obamanites and A-bomb builders. gray ancient turtles and kids galore. we even got a sonic and a subway. now i haven't been everywhere, but i have been around enough to know when I've exited the regular passage of time, and by golly this is it. Los Alamos is the poster town for the don't ask don't tell lifestyle, and Mom and Pop stores. Population for the town is somewhere in the 20 thousands but dont quote me on that.

Los Alamos is very peaceful, the wind is always blowing lightly, it usually does not get above 89 degrees, and it’s a dry heat, with very little humidity.

Now for the downside.

Los Alamos is a bon-a-fide “backdoor community”. That means people in this town don’t sit on their front porch talking to each other , no one says hi at the grocery store, no one asks how your job is going and no one wants to go out to eat after church on Sunday. These are all chemists, physicists, scientists, MIT computer engineers, and major government employees who make a minimum of 50-200,000 a year to do their job and keep their mouth shut. This, surprisingly, has transferred well into their private lives.

The other side of the town is the senior citizens. Now these are the people that started this town for the sole purpose of facilitating The National Lab. Now, this was a group of people that moved in all the supplies and equipment to start a town that was guarded by a Major military presence. They couldn’t even contact their families and friends to tell them there was a town and where they were until AFTER the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. and as the town began to form and grow, they saw the need for local government and with no outsiders to offer suggestion, they basically formed their own ‘club’. now fast forward to the present and you see the same people who started this place are retired in it. At this point they have become completely entrenched and invested in this town. They decide what kind of town they want, what they want in it, and who is in power to do what.

its a fun place to live if you're a Lab worker, someone in whom nothing is expected like a housewife, or a spoiled, demanding, entitled, kid. so come visit us, wouldnt you? we can chat, sight see, and way, way overpay for lunch at Daniel's Cafe.

don't worry about bringing a fallout suit. that's just a rumor.
